Philosophy
Our mission at Eaglets Day Care is to provide a range of safe, stimulating and nurturing child care programs that respect and embrace each child and family.

Program Description
We are a non-profit society governed by a board of parent volunteers and also members of the Britannia Child Care Hub.  Eaglets Day Care is licensed for 25 children between the age of 2.5-5.  The children are looked after by 6 staff members who are all licensed Early Childhood Educators with anything from 5 to 30 years of experience. The educators are from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities.

Eaglets provides a number of fun and exciting programs developed to stimulate and challenge our children. We have a music program that runs September to June culminating in a concert put on by the children at the Annual General Meeting in June.  We also have a monthly yoga program and a weekly creative movement and art program hosted by the Arts Umbrella Society. Every year we take an annual class photo.

We are a play-based program. Our belief is that children learn about themselves, others and the world around them through play. We set up the environment in a way that allows children to naturally learn and practice skills that encourage development in all areas: social, emotional, intellectual, physical and creative for discovery through science, fine motor and gross motor toys, dramatic play, music and dance. We are literacy-based and value a learning environment. Eaglets children become more self-reliant and independent as they grow.

We offer two snacks a day, consisting of fruit or veggies, protein and a carbohydrate component. A parent-packed lunch is served at 11:30 am, followed by quiet time for either play or napping, depending on the child’s needs.

The children are encouraged to go outside everyday, rain or shine, and we often go for walks to local parks, or around the neighbourhood.  Field trips to the Vancouver Aquarium, the UBC Botanical Gardens, the UBC Chemistry Department, local theater plays, or Maple Wood Farm have all been done in the last 2 years.

Eaglets mentors students from local Early Childhood Programs and we also host a busy volunteering program.

Facilities:

Eaglets Daycare is located at 485 Semlin Drive, in Vancouver, in a one level building, with an attached fenced play area and a covered outdoor patio activity area for those rainy Vancouver days. Inside there are two large rooms with various activity zones, a staff kitchen, children’s bathroom, and a separate laundry room and bathroom. There are plenty of opportunities for quiet or cooperative play. Toys are rotated daily to encourage different aspects of learning and growth. Each child has their own cubby for keeping their belongings and storing art projects to take home.

The board is currently undertaking a major garden and play area renovation, which will result in a modern, interactive outdoor space with a programming component to incorporate sustainable urban farming practices.
